The song made its debut Wednesday during a live session at BBC's Maida Vale studios, which you can listen to on Zumic. In addition to performances of “Fever” and “Turn Blue,” the duo debuted the studio version of this new song. You can listen to it above.
THE BLACK KEYS "BULLET IN THE BRAIN" LYRICS:
Bullet in the brain
I prefer them to remain the same
Bullet in the brain
I prefer them to remain the sameGo back from where we used to be
Everything was clear
Still, I refuse to see
Hearts began to rust
The diamond turned to dust
Baby took her pain all out on meBullet in the brain
I prefer them to remain the same
Bullet in the brain
I prefer them to remain the sameOh, I share the blame for what’s in store
I was in the wrong, but weren’t you in it more?
I let you use my gifts, to back your lying lips
I never know just what I did it forBullet in the brain
I prefer them to remain the same
Bullet in the brain
I prefer them to remain the same
The song begins with Dan Auerbach electric strumming backing up a female seductively whispering the opening lines. Drummer Patrick Carney kicks in and the song takes a slow groove with a soaring organ in background. At the 1:10 mark, the rhythm shifts and the song picks up speed, then suddenly drops into a simple bassline. The guitar / organ dominated chorus hints at psych-rock, but doesn't stay long as the bassline comes back. "Bullet In The Brain" isn't as electro-heavy as "Turn Blue," instead going in a more guitar dominated direction.
