Memorial Day weekend is nearly upon us, which means it is almost summertime. We have compiled five lesser-known tracks to play as soundtrack for barbecues and beach days to come.

1.“My Squad” - Brian Taylor

“My Squad” by Brian Taylor is a pulling-up-to-a-party-blasting-music type of song. Whether or not that’s super tacky is a different story, the point is “My Squad” is a jam that was created to shake speakers. It is by far the standout track on the the Tucson rapper's debut mixtape, Center Piece.

On the track, Brian Taylor does some flows that are similar to some of Kendrick Lamar's post-Section 80 verses. Taking someone’s flow is generally uncool, but while a good portion new rappers have been mimicking Drake’s latest flows, Taylor takes on a bigger challenge drawing inspiration from the stranger flows of Kendrick Lamar. At 19, he’s still young and developing. So who knows, in a few years we may be seeing up and comers trying to rap with a Brian Taylor flow.

2. "I’m Really hot" (Kaytranada remix) - Missy Elliot

Kaytranada's remix track from his new mixtape, Whatever, includes a nice bit of trance and two amazing Missy Elliot verses from 2003. In the second verse, Misdemeanor details leaving her man with blue balls. But not to worry, this new mix will leave you fully satisfied. Kaytranada combined downtempo house with the Virginia rapper's verses to create a song that both rap fans and EDM fans can jam to.

3. “TNGHT/AFTRMDNGHT” - WELL$ (Prod. DJ Dahi)

TNGHT/AFTRMDNGHT is a two-part track off of MTSYD: The Revenge Of The African Booty Scratcher. The spacey production comes from DJ Dahi, the man behind "Worst Behaviour" by Drake and "Hell of a Night" by Schoolboy Q. The chorus is smooth and incredibly catchy. After this impressive cut, we look forward to listening to the rest of the Charlotte rapper's uniquely-titled debut.

4."Sheep Lookin’ Mothafucka (Lude II)" - Boots

Boots is one of very few rap artists signed to Jay Z's Roc Nation. Not only can he rap, the WinterSpringSummerFall artist worked as guest writer and producer for eight of the fourteen tracks on Beyoncé’s self-titled album. The megastar called Boots an “innovator" who she is “so proud to work with." On “Sheep Lookin’ Mothafucka (Lude II),” Boots begins the song by displaying an impressive vocal range. Then the beat suddenly changes, and Boots begins rapping impressively about various types of "lookin' mothafuckas" he has encountered. The former frontman for The Blondes manages to kill both the singing and the rapping on one track.

5."BALLIN'" - Taylor Bennett

2013's breakout rap star Chance the Rapper has a little brother who raps and sounds a lot like him. On "BALLIN'," the 17-year-old Taylor Bennett showcases and similarities and differences from his older brother. The chorus is smooth with a slow-tempo, which contrasts nicely with quick and chaotic verses.
