Considering the festival's "peace & love" reputation, Metallica may have been an odd choice for this year's Glastonbury, but they pulled out a truly epic set and blew the audience away.

Metallica Live at Glastonbury 6.28.2014 Full Performance:

The band leapt right into the brutality, setting things off with "Creeping Death," followed by "For Whom The Bell Tolls," and "Wherever I May Roam." James Hetfield stopped things for a moment to tell the crowd how much it meant to them to be a heavy metal band on the Glasonbury stage, and then dedicated the set to the British metal bands who were still waiting for their chance.

The audience went wild as they broke into the chant-along intro to "Sad But True." The band was completely on-point for festival performance, with multi-layered solos and a massive stage presence throughout. Many bands suffer at festivals, but Metallica pulled out all the stops, shining especially for fan favorites "The Unforgiven" and "One."

Following a pummeling series of hits -- ""Master Of Puppets," "Nothing Else Matters," and "Enter Sandman" -- they left the stage, saying, "Metallica, Glastonbury, together at last!" They emerged a few minutes later for a hard hitting encore featuring Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey In The Jar" and Kill 'Em All classic "Seek & Destroy." Watch the full 90-minute performance above.

Metallica introduced their set with a short film from Julien Temple, featuring a British fox hunt cut short by the band dressed in bear costumes and equipped with rifles. Watch the clip below.
