http://KEXP.ORG presents The Hold Steady performing live in the KEXP studio. Recorded July 18, 2014.

On July 18th, The Hold Steady played a show in Seattle and stopped by KEXP for an afternoon performance and interview. Check it out above.

The band played acoustic versions of three songs off their new record, Teeth Dreams, and one off of 2006's Boys & Girls In America. It worked as a nice counterpoint to the heavy nature of their songs. The stripped-down nature of the performance gave each song a different feel and allowed Craig Finn's lyrics and storytelling to stand out. His vocals here are softer and less gritty than usual, and host Cheryl Waters calls them "beautiful" at the end of the second song. On the tracks from Teeth Dreams, Finn focuses on that lingering feeling of anxiety that could show up in any situation. In "Almost Everything" he sings, "Yeah there are nights I get terrified, I'm sure you get terrified too," while talking about long nights on the road.

During the interview portion, the band talks about their 10 year anniversary shows and recording Teeth Dreams in Nashville instead of New York. Craig Finn talked about the ten year tour, saying "It's quite an accomplishment. The community that is all around this band is such an important thing and it's really cool that this year we got to make an effort to formalize it, it's really exciting."

You can stream Teeth Dreams in its entirety right here on Zumic. The album is available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon. For more on The Hold Steady, including news, music, and upcoming tour dates, check out their Zumic artist page.
