Tweedy, the project of Wilco vocalist Jeff Tweedy and his son Spencer, are releasing their first album, Sukierae, on September 23rd. Recently they played at the Newport Folk Festival, and NPR invited them to do a set at Fort Adams State Park behind the main stage. Listen to the studio version above and watch them play "High As Hello" on NPR Field Recordings below.
"High As Hello" is airy and relaxed, with Jeff Tweedy's hushed vocals floating over the top delicately strummed acoustic guitar and some irregular yet fascinating percussion. Jesse Wolfe and Hollie Lessig of Brooklyn band Lucius join in on this track with handclaps and soft, beautiful harmonies.
The live performance was recorded inside a tunnel at Fort Adams State Park. The space made for an intimate show, and Spencer's drum kit was made from found objects around the area, including a cardboard box and a few packs of gum. The subtle percussive backdrop and the song's delicacy fit in perfectly with the atmosphere.
You can listen to Tweedy's previous single, "Low Key," right here on Zumic. Sukierae will be released September 23rd on Dbpm Records and is available for pre-order on Amazon.
