Above is the live recording of "Rape Me" off Nirvana's third studio album from the 1993 Live & Loud Concert held at Pier 48 in Seattle, Washington. The performance is quintessential Nirvana: a stoic yet intense Kurt Cobain, a head-bobbing, enthusiastic Krist Novoselic on bass, the raunchy backing guitar of Pat Smear, and the never short on energy (and shirtless) Dave Grohl hammering away on the drums while supporting Mr. Cobain with echoing scratchy vocals. With a quiet intro leading into a heavy and distorted chorus, this performance is nothing short of perfection.

In celebration of the band's third and final studio album, In Utero, MTV will be periodically unveiling photos and performances from the original Live & Loud Concert. Additionally, Universal Music will be releasing a box set on September 24th that includes the original In Utero CD remastered at Abbey Road Studios, a 2 CD deluxe edition with B-sides and rarities, and a DVD of the concert. This is definitely something to keep an eye on.
