On a somewhat slow news day, we here at Zumic have gone back to re-watch the one-on-one conversation that took place on February 26th between Roots' drummer/chef/Jimmy Fallon bandleader ?uestlove and Talking Heads co-founder/author/Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Byrne. The talk was part of the New York Public Theater's Public Forum series, co-presented by NYU's Skirball Center, the intent of which is to bring two people together to have an intelligent and thought provoking discussion about topics in their respective fields. Former pairings have included Rachel Maddow with Tony Kushner and Salmon Rushdie with Nathan Englander.

This round the focus was clearly on music and the Forum couldn't have picked a better duo in ?uestlove and Byrne. The two artists are both musical historians, 'love had just come from a class he was teaching on classic albums at NYU, whose long careers of peaks and valleys give a unique perspective of the industry. The two living legends talk on a variety of subjects, from how early involvement in a movement was both a blessing and a curse to whether listening to classical music makes you a better person. Byrne also touches on questions raised in his book How Music Works, a must read for any music lover. Enjoy.
