South Street, Philadelphia's most liveliest district and home to more than 300 stores and restaurants, will lose its legendary nightclub Fluid on April 6 with an event that will feature the long-standing hip-hop club party Tastytreats hosted by ?uestlove, Mike Nyce, Yameen Allworld and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Fluid has been an important venue in the hip-hop and electronic music scenes of Philly with 16 years running local parties and hosting events for artists such as Diplo and the Mad Decent movement.
Last week, Fluid's manager Oronde Gibson talked to Philly.com about the current situation with the South Street area Philly. “Part of the bigger dynamic is how drastic South Street has changed,” said Gibson, who has worked at Fluid for 14 years. “It’s gone from a mom and pop artsy-type thing to a corporate type-thing.”
#ASadDayInPhiladelphia became a new hashtag in the Twitter-verse after ?uestlove expressed sadness over the news of Fluid's shutdown in his personal account.
