“The light grows brighter as the earth lurches away from the sun, and now the orchestra is playing yellow cocktail music...”
-F Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

This coming July, WaterTower Music and Warner Bros. Records will release Yellow Cocktail Music: The Great Gatsby Jazz Recordings on CD and vinyl. The soundtrack is currently available on iTunes.

The follow-up album features more of a jazz and "roaring twenties" spin on modern music. 11 of the 14 songs on the playlist feature vocals and instrumentals by the Bryan Ferry Orchestra, some of which are jazzified versions of songs from the first release including Roxy Music's "Love is the Drug" and Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black."

The album has the best of both worlds: The classic sounds of the Jazz Age combined with the twisted lust and profound lyrics of modern music.

In director Baz Luhrmann's interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he mentioned that the new jazz album is "pretty dark", resembling the paradox of the prohibition period: Everyone was living a lie that contradicted their external image.

Yellow Cocktail Music holds a promising release if it's anything like it's parent album. The first record has been certified gold with over 500,000 album sales after debuting on the top-five of the Billboard 200.
