Jay-Z is awaiting approval to host a surprise concert in Times Square on July 8th, four days after his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, is scheduled for release. According to the NY Post, "The rapper is close to obtaining the necessary approvals for a July 8 'Late Show With David Letterman' performance. The city killed the same plan in the summer of 2010 over concerns about crowd control and security." However, despite being denied, that show was moved to the roof of the theater which didn't require permits.

A law enforcement source stated the following:

"They’ll have to shut down Broadway around the Letterman building. They’ll have to have a strong police presence. It’s going to be chaos with so many fans."

However, it sounds like Jay-Z and Co. are more than certain they'll get approval from Bloomberg's office. If that's the case, the people of New York will be thrilled to see a Jay-Z performance right in the middle of Times Square, and Midtown will be in for one long, crazy day. More updates to come.
