The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has just announced the nominees for the 2014 induction ceremony. The list of sixteen includes Nirvana, Kiss, Hall & Oates, The Replacements, Linda Ronstadt, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Deep Purple, Yes, Chic, The Meters, N.W.A., Peter Gabriel, LL Cool J, Link Wray, Cat Stevens, and The Zombies. Of those artists, five will be chosen for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2014.

To be eligible for nomination, artists need to have released their first single or album at least 25 years ago, so that makes this year's cutoff 1988. Nirvana is the only nominee in their first year of eligibility, with their debut single "Love Buzz" being released in November of 1988. Kiss, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, N.W.A., LL Cool J and The Meters have all been nominated in years past, but did not receive enough votes to be inducted.

Like the Grammys, voting for the Hall of Fame is mostly in the hands of the music industry's elite, but for the second year running, Rolling Stone is offering fans a chance to contribute their opinions. Head over to the magazine's site for the chance to vote for up to five nominees. Fan voting ends on December 10th, at which point the five nominees with the highest totals will be placed on a "fan's ballot" that will be counted along with the 600+ other voting cards. It's a drop in the ocean, but hey, so is voting in the Presidential Election.
