This past weekend, the NBA All-Star Game took place in New Orleans, featuring performances from Pharrell and Kendrick Lamar, as well as a halftime show headlined by hometown heroes Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Watch the performance, which featured Dr. John, Gary Clark Jr., Janelle Monáe and Earth, Wind & Fire, above.
Trombone Shorty and Co. kicked things of with a rendition of his song "Do To Me," and the tight band kept growing in number with each successive performer, adding Dr. John on piano, Clark Jr. on guitar, Monáe on vocals, and members of Earth, Wind & Fire on guitar, bass and vocals as the show progressed. It was an impeccably-rehearsed jam session that showcased host city New Orleans' legacy of great music, as well as giving some rising stars a chance to shine on national television. When speaking to Billboard recently, Monaé said of the rehearsals: "We love music, we love funk, we love soul, we love to jam. We didn't really even have to rehearse as many times as we did. Everybody's fans of each other's music."
Head over to Trombone Shorty's Zumic artist page for more of his New Orleans-style jams, and check out the halftime show's setlist below.
