Midday on day 2, the Gotham tent during Deafheaven's Governors Ball set was an oasis of shade and black metal.

Kicking off the set with "Dream House," it was a brutal display of furious intensity, with crowd-surfing fans barreling towards the stage. The deafening thrum of the guitars and blistering cadence of the drums backed frontman George Clarke's violent howl.

The set was heavy with material from last year's Sunbather, one of the best metal records of the year, and they more than lived up to album's the stellar reputation. Clarke's seething intensity and the pinpoint precision of the band were unmatched by any rock and roll band at the festival so far. Check out the photos below.
