Today, the trailer for the highly anticipated documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck has been shared. Watch it above. The film will air May 4th on HBO, following a limited theatrical run.

The trailer features home videos of Kurt Cobain as a child, as well as interviews with him as an adult. There are also animated sequences portraying his early life, notebook drawings, handwritten lyrics, live concert footage, interviews with friends and family, and very personal moments between Kurt, Courtney Love, and their daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

In an interview with Yahoo, director Brett Morgen explained what the film will consist of:

Roughly 85% of the material that audiences will see in Montage of Heck has never been seen or rarely seen. This includes several audio cues, portions of a recorded autobiography, a Cobain cover of The Beatles' "And I Love Her," extensive home movies of Kurt’s childhood, and never before seen interviews with Kurt’s father, mother, and sister. The film also features never before seen footage of Kurt at home with Courtney and Frances.

Moran's previous work includes the HBO documentary Crossfire Hurricane, about the Rolling Stones, and The Kid Stays in the Picture, about movie executive Robert Evans.
