Check out the 15 facts we learned from Haitian rap star.

1. Growing up in Haiti, Wyclef used to ride a donkey to school.

2. He used to live in a house with no electricity.

3. He also used to walk 3 miles to get clean water.

4. Wyclef's mother left him to live in the United States when he was only a year old.

5. When he was growing up, he thought his aunt was his mother.

6. A childhood game he played was shooting rocks at birds with a slingshot.

7. Wyclef only saw a white man once in his village in Haiti. The man was a missionary delivering rice. His grandmother told him that the white man was Jesus so he believed that Jesus Christ was a man that delivered rice.

8. He moved from Haiti to Marlboro Projects in Brooklyn, NY. His family believed they "made it" because they escaped their third-world struggles.

9. His father did not understand why he wanted to become a rapper.

10. Wyclef started his career as a battle rapper. Apparently he still has skills and is ready for someone to try him.

11. At 14, he was forced to study the upright bass.

12. At 17, Jean was a jazz prodigy and performed all over California.

13. He didn't think jazz was cool so he continued to rap in school and played jazz on the side.

14. He was the director of the choir at his father's church.

15. He was raised with Nazerian faith which led to his interest in Christian rock.
