In December, we shared Dave Sitek's remix of "Sea Legs," one of the two bonus remixes that accompanies the deluxe edition of Run The Jewels' self-titled debut, and now here's the other. Courtesy of Big Dada Sound, check out Blue Sky Black Death's remix of "36" Chain."
The Seattle duo (BSBD for short), have been knocking around their local scene for a while, producing beats for rappers as well as making solo albums, and specializing in spacey, ambient sounds. Shockingly, they bring their trademark tranquility to a Run the Jewels song that's anything but. Even more shockingly, it works. BSBD's echoey, cavernous sounds create more space for Killer Mike and El-P's verbose boasts, some of which may have taken a few listens to fully comprehend amidst El's busier production on the song's original version. Now, the pair's voices seem emitted from disembodied heads floating in zero gravity-- call it interstellar battle rap. I can't think of two better MCs to defend the human race against whatever hot fire aliens are capable of spitting.
