In preparation for Phish's 12th studio album, Fuego, which will be released on June 24th, the band has shared the song "555." You can listen to the tune above, which was written by bassist Mike Gordon and guitarist Scott Murawski.
This studio version is carried with funky basslines from Mike Gordon and a wah-wah guitar tone from Trey Anastasio. The inclusion of backing vocals as support and horns throughout the solo give the song a New Orleans flavor.
The song made its debut at a Halloween show in Atlantic City, NJ last year. Below is a crowd sourced YouTube clip of that performance:
Just a few weeks ago, the band released "The Line," another song from the upcoming album. You can listen to that tune here on Zumic.
Go to Phish Dry Goods to pre-order the album as well as limited edition artwork, clothing, and bundles. To celebrate the release, the band will play the Late Show with David Letterman on June 24th before heading out on a nationwide summer tour. Phish "555" Lyrics:
They're tyin' a blindfold cross my eyes
I rest my face down
Skidding on switchbacks near the sides
Gonna try to bust outGet up, jump out, don't wait, gotta get away
Hop off, roll down, spring up, live another daySprint on cobblestones past the tracks
They kept my money, and my water
Don’t wanna run ‘cuz I want it back
But I know I really ought toIf I don't break away clean
I might stray from the scene
Make an escape when it arrives:
The 555They bought my soul for a pile of cash
Everybody else got paid out
They're closing in I gotta dash
I gotta find a way outHop off, roll down, spring up, live another day
Get up, jump out, don't waitIf I don't break away clean
I might stray from the scene
Make an escape when it arrives:
The 555
