Today, Joey Bada$$ unleashed the single, "No. 99," from his upcoming debut album, B4.Da.$$. Yesterday, the album tracklist and cover art were posted on Amazon.com but have since been taken down. It's set to be released on January 20th. Listen as the Brooklyn rapper takes you back in time with his signature '90s style. The acoustic bassline for the track sound a lot like Low End Theory-era Tribe Called Quest tracks "Scenario," "Buggin' Out," and "Excursions."
The conflict between police officers and the African-American community is hitting its peak right now due to the deaths of Mike Brown, Eric Garner and others. Behind this dirty, grimy, Statik Selectah-produced beat, the PRO ERA leader gives a song that expresses his distaste for police. He begins the song rapping, "Ready to bust my gun / I'm rushin' in like Vladimir Putin / What you want son? / Fuck a roulette, let’s get shootin’." Joey appears to be above the protesting and ready to commence a violent war with the cops. He also raps, "When you see a pig, hit him in his baby back ribs." A little humorous, but violent nonetheless.
In related news, Joey recently canceled the rest of his current European tour after his cousin and manager, Junior B, passed away due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Zumic's thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
