Kelela will release her first EP, Hallucinogen, on October 9, 2015. The six-track album follows her debut mixtape, Cut 4 Me, which was originally released in 2013 and re-released in a deluxe edition earlier this year.

"A Message" was the first music video from the EP to be released, and was directed by Daniel Sannwald, and co-directed by animation director Fantasista Utamaro.

The main producer behind the track is Arca, aka Alejandro Ghersi, a Venezuelan producer based in London. Arca has worked with Kayne West, Bjork, FKA Twigs. Additional production and writing work was provided by producer / songwriter BOOTS, aka Jordan Asher, who worked with Beyonce on her self-titled album.

Kelela described the song to Pitchfork:

"A Message" is one of the demos that came from those sessions and it speaks to the despair that I was experiencing at the time. The initial version of the song spilled out of us in about 25 minutes. Since then, it's been like a sculpture that I've come to and refined over time, adding a lyric here, refining a melody there, adding a bridge, etc. It's a process that is now finally complete with its release and I'm so happy that I finally get to share it with all of you.

On the Hallucinogen EP, Kelela also worked with producers including Kingdom, Nguzunguzu’s MA, and DJ Dahi.

Hallucinogen will be officially released on October 9. Preorder it on Amazon.
