On Tuesday, Lupe Fiasco officially released "Adoration of The Magi," which will be featured on his upcoming album Tetsuo & Youth. The song features vocals from Crystal Torres and is produced by DJ Dahi. The album will be released on January 20th.
"Adoration of the Magi" is the name given to artistic portrayals of baby Jesus in his Nativity. Lupe Fiasco intentionally released the song on January 6th, the same day as the Epiphany -- a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God the Son as a human being in Jesus Christ.
Lupe's cryptic wordplay will always make his fans listen to his music attentively. Your best bet is to pull the lyrics up and read between the lines to firmly grasp his message. The song tells the story of a young boy who is in a rush to be an adult. It features several video game references to help illustrate the message.
In the hook, Lupe & Crystal sing:
Why you ready to die? You just a baby
Why them tears up under your eyes? You just a baby
Keep your head up in the sky, you just a baby
Quit chasing money, never mind, you just a baby
Why you wanna be born again? You just a baby
Why you playing in the streets? You just a baby
Is Lupe referring to certain classic album covers that feature babies? Here's a look at 6 different albums that feature young children on the cover and match those lyrics:
