Arcade Fire has partnered with the Creator's Project to release an official music video for "Afterlife," the second video produced for their latest album Reflektor. As a single, "Afterlife" is sprawling and emotionally daunting, with Win Butler's haunting vocals tying together the constant, light electronic undercurrent with the heavy drums and distorted guitar riff. Lyrically, the song is as weighty as ever, relating the tragic afterglow of death to a loss of love. Butler's sad admission at the end: "It's just an afterlife, with you" has a sense of eternity, without any solution to the tragedy at hand.

The video, directed by Emily Kai Bock, is an epic story told in just seven minutes. Starring an unnamed Spanish-speaking family, "Afterlife" features each member of the family's memories of a departed wife and mother. The narrative cuts between the memories and their implications within the torn but still loving family. The father's scenes, in beautiful black and white, are cinematic masterpieces within the impressive video.

Arcade Fire, since the release of Reflektor, have been notable for pushing the boundaries for visual storytelling in music videos.
