Metalcore band Beartooth are back with an honest and emotional sophomore album titled Aggressive.

Lead vocalist Caleb Shomo originally created Beartooth after he left his first band, Attack Attack!, due to depression and anxiety. While dealing with these struggles, he wrote music for the 2014 album Disgusting, and recorded all of the instrumentation and vocals himself.

Beartooth's music holds a great amount of authenticity, with deeply personal lyrics. While Disgusting delved into suffering, Aggressive is a reflection of the past and the ability to move forward.

The 12-track record opens with "Aggressive," an intense tune where Shomo angrily sings about the "lost aggressive youth." This attitude continues with "Hated" and "Loser," which describe self-worth and the idea of staying true to yourself. With heavy percussion and screams, these songs get out a lot of rage and angst.

The idea of looking back is seen in two noteworthy jams: "Burnout" and "Sick of Me." During "Burnout," Shomo sings, "It's really getting old writing negative songs / Beating myself up to get another word out." Both tunes are undeniably catchy with passionate hooks, and act as fight anthems.

There is a change of pace in the album during "However You Want It Said." Although there are still some angry points, the band's punk sound is pouring through, with a headbangable, fast-paced chorus. "Rock is Dead" is just as lively; the guitar solos will make you want to mosh and jam along.

"King of Anything," a fitting final track, will leave you with a feeling of uneasiness. Similar to the last song on Disgusting, these lyrics are sensitive. Without any percussion, Shomo pours out raw emotions slowly and eerily with only heavy guitar riffs to back him up. He wearily sings, "I'm not close to perfect, I'm not close to sane / I'm not the one to worship, and I'm not the one to blame."

Beartooth's first album was intense, and the band has delivered yet another captivating record. From the first song to the last, Beartooth will take a hold of your emotions and entangle you in their world.
