It's been 28 years since The Replacements' brilliantly disastrous Saturday Night Live performance and subsequent ban, but now they've reunited and returned to NBC.

Last night, the 'Mats appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and played a rollicking version of "Alex Chilton," their song dedicated to the eponymous Big Star frontman. For the reunion shows, Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson have been joined by guitarist Dave Minehan and ubiquitous drummer Josh Freese. The group performed magically together, with Westerberg's vocals still in surprisingly good shape and Minehan shredding a killer solo into the final verse. It may not be the drunken onstage debauchery of yore, but it's awesome to see them back in action.

Speaking of seeing them back in action, The Replacements are currently on a miniature reunion tour, hitting St. Paul this week and NYC the next. Check out their Zumic artist page for more music, videos, and full tour dates.
