This past weekend, Bruce Springsteen released a limited edition EP called American Beauty for Record Store Day. Today, we get the official music video for the title track via Springsteen's YouTube account, with footage from a soundcheck in Charlotte, North Carolina.

While the title of the video says it's from Charlotte on April 19th, 2014, the audio is clearly a studio recording that doesn't even come close to syncing with what the band is doing on stage. One of the coolest parts about the video is that the whole horn section plays tambourine, taking a page from the book of "The Big Man," Clarence Clemons. The rhythm section is strong, but the song is quite boring melodically. This is basically Springsteen's take on modern southern rock / americana, as he sings with a southern drawl and there are bits of slide guitar sprinkled in. My biggest problem is that there are three excellent guitar players in the band and none of them play any real lead parts in this 4+ minute tune.

Bruce Springsteen "American Beauty" Lyrics:

Everything in your shadow turns to vapor
You pierce my heart like it was paper
Radio's crackling with the headlines
Sun on your shoulder, wind's in the phone line
American beauty will ya be mine
Out on this highway counting white lines

I remember last summer drifting through our eyes
We're in the high grass, my finger in your hemline
Boot heels click clacking, honey, when you shine
All them blue skies, air sweeps the southern kind
American beauty wherever you'd sigh
Out on this highway counting white lines

Your hand cups your breast pledging your time
The things we carried, shining skylines
Falling sparrow, sky torn apart
Dark shining arrow, your kiss pierces my heart
American beauty forever mine
Out on this highway counting white lines
