A strange, ominous force has been looming over Nine Inch Nails recently.

Last month, bassist Eric Avery (founding member of Jane's Addiction) quit NIN, stating on his Facebook page that "as the tour dates kept growing… i just got overwhelmed."

Now, guitarist Adrian Belew, member of King Crimson along with a plethora of other music legends, just quit the band as well, only days after their new single "Came Back Haunted" was premiered on Seattle Radio station, The End 107.7.

From an original Facebook post that Belew deleted, he spoke about his departure:

hey folks, before this goes too far let me say this: I greatly respect trent and the music he makes. no one is at fault. we both agreed it just was not working. I’m sorry to disappoint anyone. that really hurts. but NIN will do an amazing show and I am back where I belong.

Later, Belew released a new, and still-accessible post on his Facebook:

concerning me being part of the 2013 Nine Inch Nails band:

it didn't work.

All of this couldn't have come at any worse of a time. Just last night the band released major details of their forthcoming album, including a title and release date - Hesitation Marks, scheduled to release September 3rd by Columbia Records. More so, they just extended their tour immensely, adding a number of national shows with supporting acts like Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Hopefully these bad tidings don't escalate anymore than they already have.

In the meantime, check out the music video for their new single, "Came Back Haunted," below via Nine Inch Nail's official website. Pre-sale information on their upcoming tour schedule can be viewed on NIN's website as well.
