"Last Dance With … Melinda?"

Tom Petty's show on Saturday night, June 3, in L.A.'s Fonda Theater was cut short by the fire marshals due to safety hazards, leaving behind a crowd of angry fans. According to the fire marshal, the floor had reached a hundred people over the capacity limit.

About an hour and a half into the show, Petty and the Heartbreakers were warned about the safety hazard. In an attempt to keep their fans happy, the band tried to keep the mood light by jokingly asking if about 100 people wanted to head upstairs or leave the arena. After their failed attempt, they went along to play their next song, "Melinda", which turned out to be the last song of the night.

When "Melinda" came to an end, Petty and the Heartbreakers informed the crowd that they were being told to exit the stage. This, of course, resulted with thousands of angry fans and an uproar of loud boos.

Anyone who's seen Tom Petty live knows that it is a phenomenal experience. During Petty's tour this summer, he's left fans speechless at each show with his variety of classic Heartbreaker hits and timeless covers. It really is a shame that such an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience was cut short for some fans.

On Sunday afternoon, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released a statement addressing the unforeseen circumstances from Saturday night. They expressed their equal frustration with the situation. In addition, both Ticketmaster and the Fonda Theatre provided documentation to prove that the number of tickets sold was not above the venue's capacity limit.
