On July 3rd, Bonham's Entertainment Memorabilia will be auctioning off David Bowie's own handwritten lyrics for the song "The Jean Genie" from his 1973 album Aladdin Sane. Bonham's reports that the lyrics are written on "cream lined notebook paper ... across 18 lines in black ballpoint pen" and signed simply with "Bowie". The lyrics were originally given to Neal Peters, who "was appointed by Bowie himself" to head the Original David Bowie Fan Club in America. In his book Moonage Daydream, Bowie calls the lyrics "a bit of a smorgasbord of imagined Americana." Bonham's estimates that they will fetch between $19,000 and $24,000 at the auction.
The auction also features a few other David Bowie items. Among them are a signed contract to play a gig at the Ealing College of Technology in April 1969 and a Vox Mk. XII twelve string guitar that Bowie posed with in multiple photo shoots.
