Longtime Devo drummer Alan Myers died of brain cancer Monday, June 24th. Myers played in the band during their period of greatest success, 1976 - 1986. He was 58 years old.

Myers replaced Jim Mothersbaugh as the third drummer of Devo in 1976. He played on the first seven albums, including Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! and Freedom of Choice, the latter of which Devo's best known song, "Whip It."

After leaving the band in 1986 due to a "lack of creative fulfillment," Myers played in Skyline Electric with his wife, Christine Myers and in Swahili Blonde with his daughter, Laena Geronimo.

"In praise of Alan Myers, the most incredible drummer I had the privilege to play with for 10 years. Losing him was like losing an arm. RIP!!", said founding member of Devo and former bandmate Gerald Casale on Twitter.

Josh Freese, drummer for Devo 1996 - 2012 tweeted this: "RIP Alan Myers. 1 of my all time favs. An underrated/brilliant drummer. Such an honor playing his parts w/Devo. Godspeed Human Metronome."

Godspeed, indeed. Play us out, Alan.
