ScHoolboy Q Reveals Details of Debut Album, 'Oxymoron'

Bootleg Kev of Power 98.3 sat down with ScHoolboy Q for an interview addressing the details behind Q's upcoming major label debut album, Oxymoron. Quincy Hanley's first full-length album to follow up the Habits & Contradictions mixtape still has no official release date, a waiting game allegedly due to sample clearance.

"We haven't put the date out because we're still working on samples. Depending on when the samples make clearance," said Hanley "Right now, I just got a record [beat] from J. Cole...I'm just working on that right now."

The TDE rapper then went on to state that fans could expect the album to include collaborators such as the aforementioned J. Cole and Pharrell (both on production), and guest features from Danny Brown and A$AP Rocky.

Regarding his Black Hippy comrade Kendrick Lamar's massive success "It's just motivation, you know what I mean? I remember when we was sharing food...[sharing] five dollars. We really came up together in this game."

On friendship with his East Coast affiliate, A$AP Rocky, Q stated that they are "homies, man. We like clothes. We like ladies. It's just a connection we had, he was a fan of mine first. I was already cool with him, and I ended up liking his music."

Prior to his rap career, Q (a former member of a West Coast Crip set) made a living selling Oxycodone, and has always been extremely candid about his own recreational drug use. Kendrick Lamar publicly expressed his disdain for the club drug 'molly' in the "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" music video. To this, ScHoolboy had a passive response - "Aw, man. That's Kendrick's opinion, you know what I mean?" he stated, "we're two different types of people. I support whatever he does. If he asked me to stay away from it, to leave it alone I'd be like 'Alright, it's over'"

Despite the new album having no official release date as of yet, fans have been given tastes of the release in tracks such as "Collard Greens" and "Yay Yay". Q stated that his main inspiration behind making Oxymoron was his four year old daughter.

"This album is really about me taking care of my daughter, honestly. And Crip history from 1969 to present. That's what this album is really about."

He also hinted that his child might be a featured narrator on the album. "I got her talking through all the album... I got a shocker for the beginning of the song depending if the label let me do it."
