John Mayer kicked off his Born and Raised tour last night at Milwaukee's Marcus Amphitheater. This was Mayer's first headlining tour since doctors repaired a granuloma in his throat last August.

According to Rolling Stone, John Mayer addressed the sold-out theater after not playing for almost two years, "I've spent many, many months dreaming of this night. It's a long time coming."

Last May, the bluesy singer released a country influenced album titled Born and Raised, after having to delay the release half a year later due to the granuloma. Now finally being able to tour that album, Mayer couldn't be any happier.

After finishing Born and Raised, Mayer soon returned to a studio in Los Angeles to record his upcoming album Paradise Valley, due this August. Mayer revealed the opening track to his latest album called, "Wildfire", which Rolling Stone compared as "sonically not dissimilar" to Born and Raised's "Queen Of California".

Rolling Stone noted that during the show, many of his songs were taken down into a lower vocal register, especially on the falsetto-ridden "Waiting on the World to Change".

During the show, John Mayer and his seven piece band performed a ton of new material as well as older favorites like "Gravity", "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room", and his rendition of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'". He also performed a cover of Bob Dylan's "I Want You".

Mayer closed the show with a song he dedicated to his ex-girlfriend Katy Perry, "Who is my face to call home", called "A Face to Call Home". He told the audience that Perry "was so patient" and took the time "to continue to get to know me and love me" during his vocal surgery.

Rolling Stone called Mayer's performance "strong and confident" in recovering and triumphing through a singer's worst nightmare.
