Pop artist Bonnie McKee sat down with Idolator's Sam Lansky to discuss a few things. In the interview they discuss being dropped by her label and becoming a songwriter for other stars, problems with the pop music industry and what it takes to make it in the business, her re-entry into being a pop star with her single, "American Girl," and what she hopes to achieve with her music this time around.

Despite wearing a ridiculous hat, McKee comes across as a level-headed person who knows how the music business works after having been chewed up and spit back out by it. She has spent years writing mega-hits for others, and now she wants to do it for herself. It was the same thing Lady Gaga did, and we all know how that worked out for her. If McKee can continue to write hits like she used to, she could be the next big thing. Of course, that means that the other stars might have to have to find new songwriters.
