To honor the legendary Maxwell's in Hoboken New Jersey, the NJ Star Ledger has put together a 20 minute documentary titled "A Darkened Stage; The Last Days of Maxwell's" about the venue's beginnings and how it has played a pivotal role in New Jersey's music scene.

The video features interviews from members of Screaming Females, Titus Andronicus, The Feelies and many others. It's interesting to see the exact origins and to hear how they created such an iconic venue based off of chemistry and fate.

Maxwell's officially closed it's doors last night with a set from the first band to ever play there 'a' and other Jersey pioneers like The Bongos and The Individuals.

The past 6 weeks have been packed with performances by Yo La Tengo, Titus Andronicus, Real Estate, The Felice Brothers and Ian Hunter.

Legends like Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden and countless others once played the venue when they were just starting out, serving as a backbone for independent and up-in-coming acts.

Between gentrification, lack of parking and an influx of families, Maxwell's was the last hold out in the Hoboken scene, turning the town into the polar-opposite of what it once stood for.

Maxwell's will certainly go down as one of the greatest venues in New Jersey history.

Rest In Peace Maxwell's, you will be greatly missed.
