Last Wednesday was "Kurt Vile Day" in Philadelphia, named for the indie musician who is a lifelong resident of the city. As previously reported, the holiday saw its namesake receive the city's highest honor -- a working replica of the Liberty Bell -- and perform in Philly's City Hall Courtyard.

The award's presenter, acting on behalf of the mayor, thanked Vile for his loyalty to his hometown and for making Philadelphia "part of his work." Also noteworthy was his list of the award's previous recipients: "visiting dignitaries, ambassadors, mayors from other countries, other cities, and now... Kurt Vile." This may be the first time since Andrew W.K.'s failed attempt at becoming "Cultural Ambassador to the Middle East" that a rock musician has been mentioned in the same sentence as "ambassadors."

After receiving the award, Vile launches into a solo acoustic performance of "Wakin' On A Pretty Day," which is unfortunately marred by some sound issues, but is nonetheless beautiful and inspired. Check out the video above, the song begins at 3:40.
