Kurt Vile and the Violators Live at Governors Ball 6.6.2014 [Recap + Photos]

Kurt Vile and the Violators jammed at Governors Ball on Friday, June 6.

The Violators started their set with the laid back "Wakin on a Pretty Day" from Vile's 2013 album, Wakin on a Pretty Daze. However, towards the end of the 10-minute jam, Vile hit the distortion pedal and started wailing on his acoustic guitar. For his second song, he switched to an electric guitar for a rocking rendition of "Jesus Fever" from 2011's Smoke Ring for My Halo. Vile traded arpeggios for distorted chords, showing that the band was ready to get loud despite their chill-folk reputation. The set even included a cover of Richard Hell's "Monkey."
