Last week, guitarist Jimmy Page was in New York City to promote his new autobiographical book, Jimmy Page By Jimmy Page. He took time out of his schedule to stop by the WNYC Soundcheck studio for an informative interview with host John Schaefer. You can listen to the complete audio above.

In the half-hour interview, Jimmy Page touches on many aspects of the book and gives a brief history of its contents. Jokingly, he says he saved all his old photographs so they wouldn't appear on eBay. Page shares stories of photos from the beginning of his career, including pictures from The Yardbirds era and the early days of Led Zeppelin. There are photos of the many guitars that he used throughout his career, and he fills us in on the background of the double neck guitar that was used for "Stairway To Heaven." Jimmy also speaks about his guitar sound, and he reveals that he was the first musician to use a fuzzbox pedal.

Page talks about landmark events in his career as well. The Knebworth Festival in 1979 was an important moment in Led Zeppelin's career, and Page shares the emotional impact it had on the band. The closing ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics was also a high point, he says. The interview concludes with Jimmy Page saying that his hearing and memory are still really good and he's ready to go out and perform in the future.

In addition to the interview, there are audio clips of "What Is And What Should Never Be," "Stairway To Heaven," "Whole Lotta Love" from the 1979 Knebworth Festival, and "Four Sticks" from the Page / Plant project No Quarter.
