Recently, Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann stopped by Conan to promote his recently released memoir, Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams and Drugs with The Grateful Dead. You can watch the lighthearted interview above via Conan's YouTube.

Bill shares insight about how he became a part of the band and how the Grateful Dead got their name. They segue into the band's infamous Playboy After Dark program, which was hosted by Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and aired in January of 1969. Bill goes on to tell an engaging story about how everybody on the set got unexpectedly high on LSD, including Hefner. You can't help but smile at the childlike innocence in which Bill tells the story.

If you haven't done so already, pick up Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams and Drugs with The Grateful Dead on Amazon. I've read the book and I can tell you that there are many great stories like the one above that Bill shares.

The remaining members of the Grateful Dead (Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart) will be coming together for three shows in Chicago on July 3, 4, and 5 as well as two shows in San Francisco on June 27 and 28. You can find more information about that here on Zumic.

Below you can watch the Grateful Dead perform "Mountains of the Moon" and "St. Stephen" from the Playboy After Dark program.
