The immortal George Clinton and his backing band, Parliament Funkadelic, celebrated "Fat Tuesday" 2016 at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in Times Square, NYC.

Clinton and his gang turned the intimate venue, which was littered with Mardi Gras beads and masks, into a funky dance party with popular songs like "Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)," "Atomic Dog," and "One Nation Under a Groove." They also shifted gears and rocked the audience with guitar driven classics like "Maggot Brain" and "Get Off Your Ass And Jam."

Clinton commanded the stage with the experience of a seasoned veteran, sharing smiles and laughs with the audience and knowing when to give up the spotlight to allow his band to shine. His vocals were energetic, and his attire was sharp as a razor. The atmosphere was so loose and party-like, it wasn't surprising when Dr. Funkenstein helped himself to a quick toke on stage!

Bennie Cowan on trumpet and Greg Thomas on saxophone delivered a soulful edge to the songs, and DeWayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight melted minds with his versatile guitar shredding. Also on guitar duties, Ricardo "Ricky" Rouse had his time to shine when he delivered a hard rocking version of "She's a Dirty Queen."

George and the band didn't necessarily focus on New Orleans / Mardi Gras inspired songs, but rather gave the hardcore fans a healthy dose of the tunes that made P-Funk a cultural force in the '70s and '80s. There was a nice balance of dance grooves and rock stylings that kept the audience partying through the night.
