On Tuesday night, singer-songwriter Jackie Greene and his band (guitarist Nathan Dale, drummer Fitz Harris, and bassist Jon Cornell) rolled into Brooklyn's hottest new music venue & restaurant, The Hall at MP, and served up a delicious entree of country and blues inspired rock and roll.
The sixteen song set consisted mostly of material from Greene's excellent 2015 album, Back to Birth, while also throwing in fan favorites such as "Mexican Girl" and "I'm So Gone." The night saw Jackie switch up guitars for select songs, and special guest Dred Scott sat in on piano for a number of tunes.
As the night progressed, the audience got looser and found their dancing shoes. Songs like "Trust Somebody" and "Motorhome" had some in the crowd singing along, and a spirited version of "Hallelujah" was one of the night's most memorable moments.
As has become a setlist staple during this tour, Jackie and the band included a Grateful Dead cover. They capped off a great night of music with a feel-good version of "Scarlet Begonias" into a scorching "Fire On The Mountain" that had the whole room bouncing.
Jackie and the band are scheduled to resume their tour March 9 in Colorado, and will be gigging on the West Coast before heading down to New Orleans for a few shows towards the end of April including Jazz Fest.
