California band Oh Sees (formerly Thee Oh Sees) have released their new studio album, Orc, through Castle Face Records. The LP highlights the band’s capacity to combine metal guitar riffs laced with punk rock attitude and occasional trippy rock jams.

Orc features 10 songs and covers 50 minutes. Band members include John Dwyer (vocals, guitar, keyboards, flute), Tim Hellman (bass), Dan Rincon (drums), and Paul Quattrone (drums).

“The Static God,” a frenzied track bursting with energy, sets the mood for an album that is enjoyable in its unpredictability. “Nite Expo” settles into a hypnotic bass-driven groove. The mostly instrumental “Animated Violence” explodes with aggressive guitars and menacing vocals.

“Keys to the Castle” is a testament to the Oh Sees' diversity. Mid-song, the band veers into a musical journey of keyboards, strings, and swooping atmospheric effects. The final tune, “Raw Optics,” is a jazzy prog-rock number that showcases the dual drummers' abilities to play off each other.

Some songs might not hold your attention, but as a whole, Orc is an enjoyable listen full of unexpected twists and turns. So sit back, turn the volume up to 10, and rock out!

Songs we like are “Nite Expo,” “Animated Violence,” and “Keys to the Castle.”

Orc is currently available on Amazon. You can also stream the full LP for free above, via Spotify.
