Today, a new Garcia Live archival album titled GarciaLive, Volume Ten, May 20,1990 Hilo Civic Auditorium has been released.
The 18-song collection features a complete concert performance from the Jerry Garcia Band in Hawaii. Members of the group included Jerry Garcia on guitar, bassist John Kahn, drummer Dave Kemper, keyboardist Merl Saunders, and vocalists Gloria Jones and Jacklyn LaBranch.
The band was on fire this night as the first set opened with a romantic "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)." Also included are Grateful Dead staples "They Love Each Other," "Deal," and a somber version of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door."
The band continued their inspired playing in the second set with JGB material such as "The Harder They Come," "Stop That Train," and "Waiting For A Miracle." The show would end with an upbeat version of another Dylan classic, "Tangled Up in Blue."
1990 was an eventful year for Jerry. He would marry his third wife, Manasha Matheson, in August. Sadly, Grateful Dead keyboardist Brent Mydland died of a heroin overdose in July, after 11 years playing in the band.
