The highly-anticipated music video for "Fall In Line" is finally here, after much buildup from the song's release last week as well as Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato's performance at last Sunday's Billboard Music Awards. Watch above on Youtube.

The dramatic, story-driven music video plays to people's emotions, as it begins with Aguilera and Lovato happily playing together on a field as innocent toddlers before being kidnapped by two soldiers, clad in black suits and helmets. They are taken to an underground prison, where their grown-up selves are forcefully positioned and chained down in cells with signs that read: "Cells are under constant video / audio surveillance." This imagery makes sense, as the sound of chains can be heard in the song's background throughout.

In another room, a man watches the women through multiple TV screens, which follows the song's themes of feminist empowerment and overcoming misogynistic barriers.  This is reflective of how women are under constant, inescapable scrutiny and judgment from society, something they must constantly fight to break free from.

In the end, they do break free from their chains — Aguilera and Lovato, wearing these fantastic matching leather jackets, work together to take down the soldiers that keep them locked up. They climb up a ladder out of the prison and onto the field they were originally taken from as children, clinging to each other in happiness and relief as flashbacks of them as happy toddlers appear.  Like the lyrics, the music video is appropriately bold and empowering, culminating in an optimistic conclusion.

"Fall In Line" is the third single from Aguilera's upcoming album, Liberation, due out on June 15, 2018. It is the singer's first new album in six years, and includes the songs "Accelerate" and "Twice." Pick it up on Amazon.
