CAKE has shared a new song called "Sinking Ship" with a claymation music video. This is their first new music since 2011. Watch and listen above on YouTube.
Fueled by a hypnotic guitar riff, the song sets an upbeat groove with steady drums, thick bass, keys, organ, horns, and quirky production. Directed and animated by Owen Streeter, the video features clay characters plotting wartime maneuvers, reflecting a grim view of society.
In a press release, frontman John McCrea spoke about the song:
"Sinking Ship" is quite pessimistic but somehow does not seem hyperbolic right now. All proceeds from the sale of this song will be donated to Doctors Without Borders. CAKE is proud to be able to help out in securing real leadership for the United States. It is a critical time for the world, and it is more important than ever to find leaders capable of putting country above self-interest. Real greatness comes from community, cooperation and ethical leadership.
At this time, there is no word whether the song will be on an upcoming album. Purchase the song on Amazon. All proceeds from the single will go towards the nonprofit organization Doctors Without Borders.
The band will begin a European tour in January, 2019. For more, check out CAKE's Zumic artist page.
