Last week, guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa performed a three-night run at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Accompanied by a stellar backing band — featuring Anton Fig (drums), Michael Rhodes (bass), Reese Wynans (keyboards), Paulie Cerra (sax), and Lee Thornburg (trumpet), plus two backing vocalists — Joe demonstrated the guitar skills and stage presence that have made him one of the most successful guitarists in the world.
Joe's dexterity was on full display, as upbeat stompers like "Evil Mama" and "King Bee Shake Down" pumped energy into the 90-year-old venue. Reaching back into his older material, Joe's cover of Warren Haynes' "If Heartaches Were Nickels" — originally performed by Kenny Neal — dripped with sorrow and his soulful vocals were chill-inducing. Throughout the night, Bonamassa captivated the audience with his emotional storytelling in songs like "This Train" and "The Ballad of John Henry," seamlessly blending high energy rock with blues, folk, and country.
