Last night country singer and songwriter Jason Isbell performed live on David Letterman with his band. After achieving success with his latest album Southeastern, the first album he wrote since getting sober, the Alabama singer is doing well.

The Drive By Truckers and 400 Unit alum performed cleanly and gracefully last night alongside his band, and Amanda Shires, his violinist, backup singer, and loving wife.

After the band finished, Letterman encouraged viewers to buy the new album with a story — "I'll tell you how much I love these people: I once drove all the way to Montana to see them play. It was tremendous."

Thankfully you don't have to drive all the way to Montana, unless you want to, that is, but you should watch Isbell's live perfomance above.

Isbell's next project will be a contribution to an Alabama tribute album commemorating the band's 40th anniversary. The album, called High Cotton: A Tribute to Alabama, will be out on September 17th. On it, Isbell will perform "Old Flame" with John Paul White.
