"Sleeper" - Ty Segall [YouTube Album Stream]

Published August 12, 2013

California garage rocker Ty Segall trades in his distortion pedals for an acoustic guitar on his next record, titled Sleeper.

This 10-track album is unlike anything casual Segall listeners are used to, because Segall switches rather abruptly from his hard rock roots, crossing over to dreamy and almost pop-like folk. While very catchy, Sleeper is the musician's most emotional and eeriest work yet, as it was written shortly after Segall lost his father to cancer. Not only that, but around the same time he moved to LA to be closer to his younger sister, as well as fell off speaking terms with his mother. For Segall fans, this is really a must-listen - particularly his possible anti-mom track "She Don't Care," and the album's finale, "The West."

Sleeper is available on Drag City label's online shop. Their description is also great:

Ty as Warrior of Mars, here to save Earth's soul with naught but his six-string resonating axe and freedom-inducing sleeping technique. Sleep with the Segall, dream your dreams!
