Lady Gaga opened up the 2013 MTV VMAs yesterday, starting the night with a performance of her new single, "Applause." Her performance would involve several on-stage costume changes, with less clothing involved in each subsequent outfit. Despite the choruses being primarily pre-recorded backing tracks, she actually sang much of the song live, which is nice for a music award show. And although it certainly won't be as talked about as Miley Cyrus' performance/proclamation of the death of music, or the reunion of NSYNC, it definitely gave the VMAs a big opening this year.
