Cage The Elephant released their album Melophobia last week. Last night, they rocked "Come a Little Closer" on David Letterman and got a great response from the talkshow host. The pounding rock tune definitely warranted some type of response and Letterman was so moved that he walked over, offered to buy the drummer's kit, then continued "I mean, my god. That's it. No more calls. We have a winner... this is it. This is all you need... let's go out there and do something" before suggesting they "all go get in a fight or something". That's the power of live rock music.

The song is driven by Jared Champion's drumming, which is precise and creative. Vocalist Matthew Shultz gives amazing energy, pouring everything he has into that microphone, while his brother offers tight rhythmic guitar playing and lead guitarist Lincoln Parish's reverb drenched Gretsch offers some beautiful melodies and tones. The bass and keyboards fill out the sound and give it the weight and power it deserves. Overall, an excellent performance.
