My Morning Jacket have recorded Fela Kuti's "Trouble Sleep (Yanga Wake Am)" with Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes and Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs, backed by the Antibalas Horns for the album Red Hot + Fela. On this special performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, they're joined by The Roots' rhythm section as well. That's a grand total of 16 musicians performing the song live, and extraordinarily talented musicians at that.

For some reason, all-star collaborations seem to fall flat more often than deliver on the potential of the talent that's assembled. That is most certainly not the case here. My Morning Jacket's Jim James knows how to lead a band, and he's playing with some of the absolute best players in the world. You can see Questlove on drums restraining himself from overplaying, because he's working with My Morning Jacket's drummer as well as a percussionist.

The only problem with this performance for Jimmy Fallon is that it's limited to only 7 minutes for television. The album version is over 14 minutes of deep groove afro beat jazz meets space funk rock that should not be missed:
