The Weeknd performed his single "Pretty" on October 9th on the David Letterman show. Appearing on his latest album, Kiss Land, the original is a heavy electronic-focused track. Live on Letterman, The Weeknd strips down the electronic backing to its base components, allowing the singer's voice stand out even more so than usual.

In stripping down the song so, "Pretty" emanates a strong eighties influence. In response to the intense drum buildup, from a soft backbone to a ferocious beat, Letterman congratulates The Weeknd and the backing band while name dropping Phil Collins, as if to compare the intensity to "In the Air Tonight." The Weeknd's voice has obvious roots in Michael Jackson's style, but he retains enough passion to still sound unique.

Check out the performance and compare it to the equally excellent studio version below.
