In loving memory of Lou Reed, who passed away yesterday at 71 years old, My Morning Jacket performed his eternal classic "Oh! Sweet Nuthin" with Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis and others at the annual Bridge School Benefit Concert.

It's a beautiful tribute. As with all Bridge School performances, it was done entirely with acoustic instruments. Jim James handles the vocals while his bandmates hold down an absolutely stunning version of the tune. Neil Young chimes in with the occasional vocal support, while also playing acoustic guitar and harmonica. During the jam section of the song, they really bring the house down. Young and James engage in some foot-stomping and full body guitar playing, as Neil leads the way with lead harmonica parts and James' hair is flying all over the place. At one point, Young is rocking the harmonica so hard that his guitar slips off his shoulder and Elvis Costello comes over to make sure it doesn't fall. After the jam, the band comes back into the slow groove that started the song off getting a roaring ovation from the audience.

Lou Reed was a hard rocker who lived a fast hard life. "Oh! Sweet Nuthin" is a song that captures that lifestyle, with tenderness and sweet sensitive emotion. The YouTube video is 9 minutes, but it is a moment that transcends time, space, and musical boundaries.
